my silent escape

it took me 24 years to experience my first funeral. it was difficult for me to fathom during the long dreary car drive, but i resorted to doodling and i found comfort. my parents were reminded of how i was always so silent during long car trips long ago when i was too small to see via the rear view mirror. they told me that theyd often wonder if i was still in the car, but they were assured that i was in the backseat when every so often theyd hear the noise of a pencil being dragged across a sheet of paper.

puzzle pieces

during my first week back at school i worked on a disney jigsaw puzzle. during past times i would normally prop the box up to see what exactly i was piecing together, but this time i opted not to - instead i decided to piece the puzzle with no knowledge of what the end result would look like.

the experience i had was so much more exciting because i had no idea of what to expect - what was i piecing together? is this goofy's shirt or nemo's fin? does this go on the right corner or is it in the center? in addition to the fun i had linking puzzle pieces together, i had the bonus joy of discovering surprises as i revealed more and more of the picture.

shuttle art

since i live on the hospital campus i frequent the intercampus shuttle to go to class. this week in la there has been an onslaught of unfamiliar rain. i have never seen a chinese magician so my pinky doodled one on the window.

flipbook gallery

flipped-out animation, the hench dada flipbook gallery, had its opening reception. it featured probably about a zillion flipbooks mostly made by the undergrads. justin and i helped set up the venue (i had first dibs on the free chips and guacamole).

3d tv

panasonic came over to the cinematic arts building to show off their new technology --- full hd 3d. i had heard that espn is planning to use 3-d tv for future sporting events so i had to check it out. after viewing a demo of boxing and football highlights, my first impression is that it was awesome and it definitely felt as if i was in the stands.
